The Knitted Accessories Project was my first knitting endeavor at Central Saint Martins. Each student was assigned a decade from the 1920s to the 2000s to design an iconic accessory representative of that era. I was given the 1950s and, after conducting research, chose to base my project on lucite handbags, compacts, and cigarette holders from that time.

To bring this concept to life, I used metal wiring to construct a shell-inspired framework, which I lined with two variations of a partial knit sample I developed. Through the use of color and texture, I aimed to replicate the shimmering, mineral-like quality of an oyster glistening in the light. I further adorned the design with faux pearls, beads, and hand-stitched a mirror-like trim inside the bag.

My intention was to evoke the sensation of walking along a beach, discovering a shell, and being delighted by the unexpected treasure hidden inside.
